The boom of new technologies has left no stone in the translation industry unturned, with the fields of legal translation and court interpreting being no exception. A new element is becoming a part of interpreting of police interviews or court proceedings, interpreting through video conference. When describing the advantages of software for Computer Aided Translation, legal texts, such as contracts or judgments, are very often stated as ideal texts to enjoy the benefits of TM software due to their fixed structure and standard phrases.
However, is the market prepared for such a change? Are all court, or certified interpreters and translators familiar with these possibilities? What can be done to improve the situation? And what about the clients?
